Each event will be in a public place in Oakland County, like a farmers market. We’ll begin by gathering in an open area, such as a parking lot.
Following a brief “double check,” we will form small groups of about 8 to 10 and move to separate, but near-by, locations. Once in place, one person (assigned) will begin the first song, quickly joined by two, four and then ten voices until all the groups are spontaneously singing by the end of the first verse of the first song. As the groups sing they will also slowly walk towards one another until, by the end of the first song, they have all joined together. And it is time for the second song to be sung in place.
And then we are done.
You can leave, do some shopping, get some coffee with other singers, whatever you like. The whole thing will last about 15 minutes.

Frequently asked questions
What type of songs?
The songs will be old favorites, like “This Land Is Your Land, This Land Is My Land” and “If I Had a Hammer.” If need be, carry a small card with the words on it.
How do I learn the songs?
You might know most of them already. There’s be a page on this website for each song, with a recording you can sing along to, the words, and the sheet music. You don’t need to be able to read music.
Will there be signs, speeches, fund raising, or politics?
No. Just songs.
Who sponsors this group?
Nobody. The group was created by one person, Mary Louise Porter, with a little help from her friends. The history page tells you more.
What should I wear?
Comfortable clothes. Avoid clothes promoting particular cause. Don’t wear clothes with a political message. The music will be the message.
